The opposition

Submitted by The Beak follower "Rambunctious Penguin"

Having been voted out one might expect a former Councillor to get the hint and disappear into obscurity, at least for a while. It's somewhat tedious therefore to hear Mikey Mike point scoring at public meetings and trying to tell the Councillors what they should be doing via the pages of the Penguin News. I don't think either of these "public appearances" made him look good and they suggest that he has a certain contempt for the process of democracy that said his input wasn't necessary.

His point at the public meeting about the magistrate probably not being able to mediate on an informal basis was a good one, but the way in which it was presented clearly showed he's more interested in point scoring than in genuinely trying to contribute. So if we measure the score, let's say in sour grapes, then that's one to Mikey Mike.

The article in the Penguin News came across as an instruction and with the terms “European Union Green Paper” and “important political issues” used in close succession my immediate reaction was to read no further for fear of lapsing into a coma, and to snort with derision at the photograph of the man that the electorate said they had heard enough from.

However his obvious intent to snipe from the sidelines may be a useful tool: it will help to keep the new Councillors on their toes and therefore serve a wider purpose. So if he's prepared to make himself look bad in the process then, for our part, I guess we can put contempt to one side. For the sake of consistency though, the points should still be counted in sour grapes.
